Why use a TikTok post engagement rate calculator?

Engagement rate is the clearest way to measure how your TikTok content is performing — and how well it connects with your audience.

Whether you're a creator, marketer, or brand manager, tracking your engagement rate helps you see what’s working (and what’s not). It also helps you make smarter decisions around posting times and topics and lets you show off your results to clients or stakeholders (and feel confident asking for a raise).

What’s a good engagement rate on TikTok?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, but in general, a “good” TikTok engagement rate is anything above 2%. However, context matters — including your industry, audience size, and goals.

Here’s a quick guide to what’s considered good:

  • Under 1% – Low engagement

  • 1%–2% – Average

  • 2%–4% – High

  • 4%+ – Excellent

Some industries naturally see higher engagement than others. For example, the average engagement rate on TikTok for tech companies is 4.2% (we see you, Duolingo).

Keep in mind: smaller accounts often have higher engagement rates because their audiences are more niche and active. That’s totally normal — and something brands look for when partnering with creators.

TikTok engagement rate benchmarks by industry

Hootsuite’s engagement rate calculator for TikTok is unique in that it not only crunches the numbers for you, but it tells you how you’re doing compared to others in your vertical.

  • All industries: 2%

  • Technology: 4.2%

  • Media and entertainment: 2.2%

  • Healthcare: 1.6%

  • Education: 0.65%

  • Dining, hospitality, and tourism: 0.6%

The overall average engagement rate on TikTok is approximately 2.1%. That means if you’re coming in above that, you’re likely already ahead of your competitors and doing something right.

~2% is a solid engagement rate for media and entertainment accounts on TikTok.

Keep in mind that TikTok generally has higher engagement than other platforms, especially for smaller accounts. We love to double-tap, comment, and share on TikTok.

But don’t get too hung up on engagement rate. What really matters is how your current content is performing compared to your past content. As long as those charts are inching upward, you’re doing great.

How to boost your TikTok engagement rate

Looking to level up your TikTok game? Try these proven tactics to increase your engagement:
